POLICIES, SERVICES, PROCEDURES.....

CURRENT POLICIES & PROCEDURES
(subject to change)

Our reserve bird hunting season is from September 1st through March 31st of each year. Big game hunting is regulated by the NM Game & Fish laws and seasons and requires a valid NM hunting license along with the appropriate tags. Your license can be purchased here:  https://onlinesales.wildlife.state.nm.us/.

We expect that all guests will conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen and will be considerate of other guests. The same behavior is expected of your children at all times. Guests agree that they will be financially responsible for any destruction or damage of any property on the grounds or in the lodge. A credit card may be kept on file for any such damages, which will be itemized in writing for the guest.

All children under the age of 18 years must have completed an approved safe hunter course such as the NRA Safe Hunter Course, before participating in any hunting activity. There will be no exceptions. All hunters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult during any hunting activity.

All gun chambers must be kept open until preparing to shoot on a range.  All pump and semi-automatic shotguns must be plugged to hold no more than 3 rounds. Safe shooting and hunting protocol will be observed at all times. Eye and ear protection should be worn when shooting.

Unsafe or careless use of firearms or verbal or physical altercations will be grounds for termination of a hunt or event at the guide's or owner's discretion.

All hunts and events including meals are by reservation only on a first come, first served basis, and will be confirmed upon receipt of a 50% non-refundable deposit by check made out to La Joya Valley Ranch, unless other arrangements are made in writing. Full balance of your hunt price is due 7 days prior to arrival. It is understood and agreed by all parties that no promises for success have been made and that you are hunting free roaming, wild animals under fair chase conditions, and that there will be no refunds or price adjustments. In the rare occasion a hunt or event must be cancelled due to extreme circumstances, we will do our best to work with you to re-schedule for a future date, but again there will be no refunds or price adjustments.

An appropriate gratuity of 15% - 20% of any hunt price is both standard in the business and appreciated by our hard-working guides.

BIG GAME HUNTS & THE HARVEST
Please remember that you have purchased a “fair chase” hunt. We are not a high fence reserve. Your professional guide will make every effort to ensure your success. It is in your best interest to listen to him; he knows what he is doing. Our guides work for the gratuity they will earn from you. In this industry, the expected and appropriate gratuity is 15% or more of the cost of the hunt, whether successful or not. We ask that you tip your guides directly.
When your animal is down, the guide and staff will handle everything. Also included in the cost of your hunt is the cleaning, skinning, and quartering of the animal made ready for your return trip. It will be hung in cold storage until your departure. If possible, we advise all hunters to bring 4-5 large coolers.

  • SERVICES OFFERED FOR ADDITIONAL FEES

  • Preparing your trophy for taxidermy. We have a taxidermist on staff that does excellent work or we can ship your trophy to your taxidermist.
  • Processing - we have a butcher on staff and can custom process your animal.
  • Transportation - we will be happy to transport you to and from the airport - with advance notice.
  • Any additional requests must be made in advance.

NOTE:  All hunters must demonstrate proficiency with their weapon. If an animal is wounded, we will make every effort to recover it. In the rare and sad event that the wounded animal is not recovered, this is considered a kill and the hunt is concluded. Please practice with your weapon prior to your hunt. We believe that “one shot = one kill” and so should you. If you request, your guide will be happy to coach you in successful shooting techniques. There is a BIG difference between a round black target in your cross hairs and a monster Bull Elk. Your guide can help you make that shot successful.

Closed Monday and Tuesday and Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day (except possibly for pre-scheduled multi-day hunts or events)

ALL HUNTERS AND GUESTS VISITING LA JOYA VALLEY RANCH agree to assume complete responsibility for their actions and behavior while participating in the potentially dangerous outdoor activities offered.
